In this 13 Colonies Activity Pack there are 4 parts:

Vocabulary—Posters and Activities:
Introduce the vocabulary words with the real-life photo posters included. You could post these posters around the classroom and have students travel around to match up and define the words in their flip flaps or use as a center activity. These posters are excellent for a bulletin board display too!

Informational Articles & Activities:
Have students read the informational articles about each region in the 13 Colonies: New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern Colonies. The informational articles focus on each region related to people, natural resources, climate, daily life, crops, houses, schooling, and economy. There is also a graphic organizer and close passage for students to complete at that center or learning station that ties it all together. Plus there’s a map and mystery flaps activity pages to round out the activities. In addition, this 13 Colonies Activity Pack includes character studies for the Puritans, Quakers, and the Southern Plantations.

Colonial Jobs – Informational Articles & Activities:
Have students read about the important artisans and craftsmen of the 13 colonies. There are character studies for Basket-makers, Blacksmiths, Printers, Shoemakers, Tailors, and Silversmiths. There’s a hands-on “Who am I?” activity for students to figure out who each artisan it is from their job description. There’s also mini-focus info about merchants, brick-makers, wig-makers, coopers, town criers, and cabinet-makers that you could use with the Writing Prompt about choosing an apprenticeship. In this 13 Colonies Activity Pack there’s a technology info page about shipbuilding and plows. There are Venn diagrams to compare and contrast life in the three different regions of the 13 Colonies.

PowerPoint Presentation:
There’s a 100 slide PowerPoint presentation to teach all about the 13 Colonies Unit. It includes information about each region: New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern Colonies. It has vocabulary slides and an 11 question quiz to check for understanding. An answer key is included for the quiz. Each slide has colorful scenes to help students connect to the information. The slideshow presentation can be used as a visual representation for the whole class to follow along and complete the organizers, at a computer center, or even for reviewing at the end of the unit.
