The Wampanoag people lived in Northeastern Woodland region mostly in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The word “Wampanoag” means “People of the First Light.” It was the Wampanoag people who celebrated with the pilgrims for the first Thanksgiving in 1621.

This unit includes reading passages, fact sheets, and activities to accompany the study of these unique people.

There are 3 Main Activities:

Vocabulary:
Introduce the vocabulary words with the real-life photo posters. You could post these posters around the classroom and have the students travel around to write the definitions under the flip flaps in their notebooks. These make a cool bulletin board in a snap!

Reading:
Set up a learning station. Have students read the passages and answer the questions on the tri-fold organizers.
At each station, print and copy the following:

*Tri-fold Organizers (copy back-to-back)

*Map Activity

Student Activities:
