Time Capsule Activity: A Fun Project for the First Week of School

Your students will love creating this unique and creative time capsule project!

Creating a Time Capsule is an awesome critical thinking and fun writing activity to do with students! It works especially well at the end of the year to create a special keepsake! Teachers love it because it’s meaningful and students love it because it’s a creative project that’s all about them!

After learning about two famous Time Capsules, students create their very own personal Time Capsule to lock up and discover in the future. There are seven parts of the Time Capsule that they will complete during class. Part six is collecting photos or small objects to place into their Time Capsule.

    Part One: Introducing Me!
    Part Two: In My World
Part Three: The People in My Life
    Part Four: My Favorite Things
Part Five: A Look Into The Future
    Part Six: A Secret Stash
Part Seven: A Letter to Kids in the Future!

Students love creating and writing the different parts as they “build” their own Time Capsule to their future self! For younger students (or if you’re limited on time) you might want to do only one of the pages for each part to complete it more quickly.

Also, enclosed is a letter to send home to parents with their Time Capsules explaining the project and asking them to put it in a safe place for several years, or until they graduate from high school.

What a great thinking and fun writing activity to do at the beginning of the school year and continue all year long OR to keep students thinking and motivated during the last weeks of school!

Kindness Activities: A Character Education and Class-Building Activity

This character education and classroom-building activity teach kindness in the classroom. Just print-n-go and you’re ready to start!

This is an excellent activity to build self-esteem in the classroom! It can be used anytime during the year and is a perfect way for students to practice expressing their appreciation and gratitude for their fellow classmates and friends.

This team-building activity helps students appreciate each other’s talents and gives practice expressing themselves in writing. This activity also boosts class morale and makes everyone in the class feel appreciated.

    Steps:
    1. Have each student pick a piece of lined paper. There are several different varieties for students to choose from as well as a blank one in this pack.

    2. Have students write their name (in rainbow colors for younger students) at the top of their page and decorate the page.

    3. Next, have a class discussion about the best ways of expressing your appreciation for people and classmates.

    4. In this pack are posters with sample statements to display around the classroom to help students give appropriate and specific compliments.

    5. Each student places their page on the top of their desk and rotates to the next desk in the row until they’ve written one compliment for every student in the class.

    6. After students have returned to their desk and read through all the compliments left for them by their classmates, have them pick their favorite compliment to share with the class!
