There are Three Main Activities:
Vocabulary:
Introduce the 6 vocabulary words related to Presidents’ Day with the real-life photo posters included. You could post these Presidents’ Day posters around the classroom and have students travel around to match up and define the words in their flip flaps or use as a center activity. These Presidents’ Day posters are excellent for a bulletin board display too.
Informational Articles:
Next, have students read the informational articles about Presidents’ Day, Becoming President of the United States, and a Presidential Job. There are also Presidents’ Day character studies where they will meet George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The Presidents’ Day articles are written in the form of mini-booklet with scenes for students to connect and color.
Presidents’ Day Activities:
Have students complete the Presidents’ Day Mystery Flaps and the 6-page Flip-Up Booklet about Presidents’ Day. I usually have them do one page at each center or station. They can use the Presidents’ Day articles as a reference source to help them complete the pages of the booklet. Lastly, they cut, color, and assemble the Presidents’ Day Flip-Up Booklet. The Presidents’ Day Flip-Up Book can be glued or stapled inside their interactive notebooks, file folder, or a 12 x 18 piece of construction paper folded like a book cover. Students could then decorate the cover of the booklet.
Happy Presidents’ Day!
