There are four main activities:
Read. Connect. Create.
Vocabulary:
Introduce and review the vocabulary words using the colorful vocabulary posters with real-life photos. These posters are excellent for bulletin boards too! Have students cut, glue, and define the vocabulary words using the flip flaps.
Reading:
Read the passages about Geography, Natural Resources, and three main climates. Complete the activities that go along with those articles.
Landforms:
Create a learning station for each of the 12 landforms included in this unit. Be sure to put the reading passage, photo poster, and graphic organizer at each station or center. Each article gives a definition of the landform and an example of one so students can form a connection to the information. Have students answer the questions on the organizers. You could have the students work in pairs or group work. Depending on the time allotted and the age of your students, 12 landforms might be too many. In that case, you could have each student learn about 3, 4, or 6 of the landforms and teach each other about the other ones.
Activities:
The geography flip book is perfect for centers. Follow the directions included to assemble their flip books correctly. Flipbooks fit perfectly inside a notebook so students can refer back to them.
Bonus: A Location Organizer and Landform Organizer are included. These can be folded as a brochure and glued into their interactive notebooks. Just cut out, fold into thirds, dot the back of the middle section of the brochure with glue, and hold in place in their notebooks until dry. Students could add more information to the outside folds or page.
