The Life Story of President George Washington Activity Pack

Students will love learning all about the First President of the United States with this 35-page hands-on resource and flip-up booklet!

George Washington was elected the first President of the United States in 1789. George worked hard as the President to solve many problems. He watched the United States grow and prosper. When George left office, people gave speeches and threw parties to show how much they loved him. Today, George Washington is honored as one of the most influential people in the history of the United States.

This unit includes many interactive activities and learning opportunities for students including:
8 Informational articles that double as a Mini-booklet all about George Washington’s life:

✔Meet George Washington
✔George Washington Organizer
✔Vocabulary Posters
✔Vocabulary Flip Flaps
✔Mystery Flaps
✔6 Page Flip-Up Booklet
✔For Elementary Grades – Second grade, Third grade, Fourth grade, Fifth grade
✔Great for Core Knowledge
✔Common Core Aligned

There are 3 main activities:

Introduce the 6 vocabulary words with the real-life photo posters included. You could post these posters around the classroom and have students travel around to match up and define the words in their flip flaps or use as a center activity. These posters are excellent for a bulletin board display too.

Next, have students read the informational articles and character studies where they will meet George Washington and learn all about his life. It starts with him as a young boy and continues until he becomes the first president of the United States. The articles are written in the form of mini-booklet with questions and scenes for students to connect and color. There are two mini-booklet options: 1. Have students read, answer the questions, color, and cut around the edges of each page. Have students complete the George Washington Organizer using the articles as a reference source. Keep the pages full-sized, staple at the top, and place in between two pieces of construction paper or inside their SS notebooks. So, when you lift up the pages it’s like a large George Washington booklet.
2. Have students read, answer the questions, color, and cut around the edges of the pages. Next, cut the pages in half across the dotted lines in the middle of each page. Put the pages in order and staple on the left side to form a small mini-booklet.

Student Activities:
Have students complete the Mystery Flaps and the 6 page Flip Up Booklet all about George Washington. I usually have them do one page at each center or station. They can use the articles as a reference source to help them complete the pages of the booklet. Lastly, they cut, color, and assemble the booklet. Flip up books can be glued or stapled inside their interactive notebooks, file folder, or a 12 x 18 piece of construction paper folded like a book cover. Students could then decorate the cover of the booklet.
